Is my Windows 8 (or Windows 7/Vista) activated?

After purchasing any version of Windows (and installing of course), sometimes activation fails for reasons best known to it. Even if it succeeds, it is necessary to check the status of your windows activation.

This post attempts to solve the following problems and answer the following questions:

Is my Windows 8 activated?

How do I confirm my Windows activation status?

Am I running a trial version or a fully licensed version?

What is the licensing status of my Windows version?

This post is applicable to Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8.

How To.

Microsoft has made available a tool useful for activating and confirming your windows activation status. It is called Windows Software Licensing Management Tool.

  1. Open command prompt.
  2. Enter this command in the prompt

Wait for a few seconds, and a Windows Script Host dialog box that displays Windows Version and the expiration date (if it is a trial version).

The /xpr option shows the EXPIRY DATE of the current license. You can also use wild cards e.g. slmgr/xpr [Activation ID]

Other options you could use with the management tool are

/ipk <Product Key>  Used to install a product key for activation

/ato Used to activate windows (If windows is not already activated)

/dli (display license information)

/dlv (display detailed license information)

/rearm (Rearm licensing status of computer)

/upk (uninstall product key)

If you feel even geekier and want to see the myriad of options, execute slmgr/?

And do not forget to echo your solutions to the world by liking and sharing to friends
